ARIZONA TRIP - DAY 7

I woke up at around 6:50 this morning on my own and decided that was a good time to start the day. I got coffee started and Lauren soon got up as well. I saw trash pickup come by. I was curious to see what kind of vehicle they use for trash pickup on these hilly and winding country roads. It looks like a slightly smaller and more rugged vehicle, I have to wonder if it was a modified truck.

I was thinking back on all the Arizona wildlife we've seen on our trip so far. We saw javelina, mule dear, lizards and snakes, quail, ravens, elk, and tarantula. Not to mention all the different native plants and ecosystems we've visited. It has been a very Arizona-y trip. It's been nearly a decade since I was in Arizona and it has felt so good to reconnect.

I need to get ready to check out! Here is a quick list of to-do items for me today • Toss trash • Pack up clothes • Do dishes • Collect cabin laundry • Bring back in dumpster • Shower and make myself look acceptable • Update Blog (If time allows) • Put wind chime back up

I put on some upbeat music while I cleaned and organized the cabin.

Once I had everything packed up I updated my blog.

As checkout time came we loaded up the car and said farewell to the cabin. I am certainly sad to go, but happy we had such a great place to stay! It was a perfect mixture of rustic and bougie. If anyone is visiting Arizona and would like to stay there let me know!

We drove back down to Phoenix and straight to our hotel room. After getting our room and getting settled we set out to pick up Canyon.

We went to the Arizona Art Museum. Our Dad worked here and it was a frequent element of our childhood.

We visited a room filled with hanging lights and mirrors. It was magical and genuinely disorienting.

In the art museum is a display of miniatures that me and Canyon have long since loved visiting. I have never read why they have these miniatures on display. They are called the Thorne Miniatures and apparently in the early 1900's they were made as a simpler way to make historical models of rooms from different eras. Looking at them through that lense, it makes sense why they had so much detail.

We continued to explore the museum. As we looked through the gift shop, me and Canyon found A series of young adult books about a group of people that magically get shrunk down and pulled into the world of rhe Thorne Miniatures!

I had no idea they made these books, but its something we had always thought of! What a strange find!

We finished up at the museum and headed over to the Old Spaghetti Factory, a family staple since I was a kid. This was an important place for me to show Lauren and I was glad my Aunt Stormy and sister and brother and law could join us.

I was very happy to find that the place had no changed much since I was a kid.

We had pasta and reminisced and caught up. It was a nice night for family.

After that, we went back to our hotel to pack and get ready for the journey home.
